Oh oh.... I"m in trouble

Darn...just when I thought he'd forgotten....the email arrived yesterday, no doubt directed at me, though my mini boss nicely wrote for everyone.
"He has never received weekly reports or monthly reports from lab members
these days."
Its a phrase that filled me with dread. I've been shirking my duties in the writing of weekly or montly reports- emails about what we did and what we will do. The last few months I've not done them, mostly cause I initially forgot, especially coming back after last years conference.

I think deep down I"m rebelling, this constant checking up and goal setting is not something I'm comfortable with. Plus, there are weeks where its fairly quite or routine or you've spent a week growing cells and preparing and writing- doesn't look very busy and as your expected to have multiple points of activity.... Then there are other times I'm superbusy so there's no time to write. Its not like he doesn't get monthly updates either- we have meetings where all the researchers (PhD students and me and the other postdoc) present our latest results etc. This happens every month.
Any way I sent it off along with a reminder that I will be away for the rest of March from next week.
Today
"Please do not forget your WR and MR. As a researcher, you need to
control yourself', including this matter."

Ouch....
Must try harder....after the holiday

Another post from the Abbey

Finally finished off a figure- hopefully second one also completed this week along with some writing...I can live in hope that most of the paper will be done before I'm off on my hols. I've still got a strong urge to take my laptop and work on my paper whilst away, is this really sad? Maybe its not such a bad thing, I'm already expected to check my email regularly in case the lab needs to urgently contact me...the last time they did I was in New Zealand and it was to tell me I would be in quaratine because of the extreme paranoia outbreak (aka H1N1 flu). The thought of taking my laptop on holiday is quite depressing though, I feel like I'm turning into a my PhD supervisor, who used send daily emails whilst on holiday and even ring the lab to check up on us when away (well, until his wife banned him that was).
The quietness continues- I don't know why its been bothering me recently, as its always been pretty quiet.. I guess cause its also pretty empty... the docs are off at other hospitals on clinical duty or are actually in hospital - as I discovered last week when they wandered into the lab in their hospital PJs (nice green/blue tartan ones), I still haven't quite figured out what he's got, no one has been particularly forthcoming on the gossip here.
Last week was the Burns night of luxury down in Tokyo of which I shall post later, once I have my photos sorted. I think we can say we had a good time, though I wouldn't do it again- definately swimming in different ponds.
